Mumbai: A 20-year-old man, Vishal Vishnu Bhogavale, was rescued from drowning about 100 feet away from the sea shore at Girgaum chowpatty. According to police, the said person was safely rescued by the on-duty lifeguards. He was given the first-aid and sent to the Nair hospital in police van for further treatment.
After this incident, life guards were alerted on Girgaon, Dadar, Juhu, Versova, Gorai and Aksa beaches with sandy sea shores, which are visited in large numbers by tourists and locals alike.
According to an official, most of the drowning cases are happening where it is not possible to deploy life guards due to rocky sea shores like Nariman Point, Bandstand even at Varsova and Gorai. It appeals to citizens, especially the kids and youngsters, not to venture into the rough seas during the monsoon rains.
