Mumbai : The Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) Ghatkopar Youth leader, Sudam Shinde attempted to immolate himself in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to grab the attention of the body towards his demand of not razing the public toilet, situated at Bhatwadi in Ghatkopar West.
The public toilet in Bhatwadi was built by BMC. It is used by around 1,500 residents of the area. Shinde alleged the Assistant Commissioner of N ward, Bhagyashree Kapse was keeping an eye to demolish the toilet.
According to Shinde, over the last four years, he has written several letters to the assistant commissioner, Kapse and former BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta.
But the request to save the toilet fell on deaf ears. Kapse has been ignoring the letters and attempting to demolish the toilet to vacate the land to pass on the benefit to a builder.
When all his attempts failed to save the toilet, Shinde on Monday poured kerosene on himself and threatened to immolate himself. Security guards deployed there caught him and handed him over to the Azad Nagar police station.
