Mumbai : What was attempted as a joke claimed a person’s life at a car service center in Cotton Green.
On Tuesday afternoon, the deceased Mohammed Yaqub Shaikh (48) and the accused Santosh Arekar (42), were playing pranks on each other at the service centre where they worked. At around 2.30 pm, Arekar grabbed a blow pipe and inserted it into Shaikh’s anus.
“Shaikh blew up like a balloon and started vomiting blood and then collapsed,” said Ashok Dudhe, DCP, Zone 4. “It was a car service centre and two pipes were used for cleaning cars. One is to spray water while the other is to blow air to remove dirt particles. Arekar inserted the air pipe into Shaikh as a joke.”
It did not take long for Shaikh to collapse, said officials at the Kalachowkie police station. “The air pipe has enormous pressure. Within 15 seconds, Shaikh had started to blow up,” an officer said.
Shaikh was rushed to KEM hospital but was declared dead before admission. “The doctors said that they had never witnessed such a case before,” said Dudhe.
Police said that other employees were present during the incident. “Arekar and Shaikh were very good friends who would often play pranks on each other,” the officer said. Police are investigating the matter and recording statements of the witnessess.
Arekar has been arrested and charged under IPC Section 302 (murder).
