Man held for abducting lover’s son after she rejected his proposal

Mumbai: Rabale Police have arrested a 32-year-old man on Saturday for kidnapping his girlfriend’s three-and-a-half-year old son on Thursday evening after she refused to marry him. The accused, Hemant More, was held from Vashi and booked under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code for kidnapping. According to police, the complainant had been living with her husband and son in Ghansoli since March.

The woman and her family would frequently visit her maiden home at Govandi, where she developed an illicit relationship with More, who was a neighbour. More was serious about the relationship and wanted to take it forward but the woman had no plans of leaving her husband to settle down with him. “More had approached the woman to abandon her husband and elope with him, but the complainant always opposed the idea,” said a police official.

On Thursday evening, More had come to meet the woman and her son near Rabale. The trio were in an autorickshaw when More proposed to her yet again, said police. When she declined and asked him to drop the subject, More pushed her out of the autorickshaw and proceeded on with her son. The woman immediately approached police and registered a case.

Police immediately began tracking More’s phone. On Friday evening, they received a tip-off about More bringing the toddler near the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) market in Vashi. Accordingly, they laid a trap, rescued the toddler and arrested More. He confessed to his crime and was produced in a local magistrate court, where he was remanded in police custody for four days.
