Mumbai: The Navghar police have recovered a partially burnt dead body near the crematorium premises situated at the backside of V G Vaze College on Friday afternoon. The deceased has not been identified as the body was recovered with no identification marks or documents as such. According to the police, the body is of a male, who is said to be in his mid 30s and a laboratory assistant of the college after noticing the body outside the campus alerted the police who immediately sent the corpse to the Rajawadi hospital for its post mortem.
“The upper portion of the body was burnt completely and also no clothes were found on it. Preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased was stabbed on the chest after which his throat was slit by an unknown object. We have also found some traces of a chemical on the face of the body which hints that the assailant had made sure that the identity of the deceased does not get revealed at any cost.
We are finding out more details about the incident and necessary probe in the matter is underway,” said a police officer on the request of confidentiality. The police while searching the area thoroughly found no traces which could lead them to basic details of the body.
“We have registered a case against an unknown accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to murder (section 302) and disappearance of evidence (section 201). At present, our priority is to ascertain the identity and inform the relatives about the same. Along with the police team, officers of the crime branch are conducting parallel investigation in the case and we are hopeful of getting a lead in the case very soon,” the officer added.
