Mumbai: Versova Police On Friday booked a 64-year-old man for rape, cheating and voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful confinement. Police have not made any arrests in the case as verification of the claims made by the complainant are underway. The accused, Ishwar Advani, was earlier arrested by DN Nagar Police in February for impersonating a police inspector and trying to extort money from hoteliers.

According to police, the complainant has accused Advani of raping her under a false pretext in the past. The woman has alleged that Advani, posed as an imposter, forced her into a secluded room and raped her after a physical assault. However, these allegations are yet to be verified by police.  Advani was booked under relevant sections of IPC pertaining to rape (section 376), cheating (section 420), voluntarily causing hurt (section 323), wrongful confinement (section 342).

In February, Advani was arrested from the Andheri Recreation Club, when a customer complained about a man in police uniform of continuously staring at him. On questioning, it emerged that Advani was an imposter and a history-sheeter, with a case of outraging the modesty of a woman registered against him.

Advani had entered the club in a police uniform to use the washroom, but after that he stood in the lobby and constantly stared at a club member, making the latter uncomfortable. When the member asked Advani to stop staring, he refused to back down and instead, asked him to behave and talk properly to a policeman. Matters worsened, leading to an altercation. The altercation soon turned into a fight and police intervention was sought.
