Mumbai: The Dindoshi police arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly kidnapping his sister-in-law, a minor, on Thursday evening. However, the family of the victim claims that it took 50 hours for the Dindoshi police to register a kidnapping case against the accused.

According to the police, on Thursday night, the accused Sageer Shaikh left the residence at Squatter’s Colony with his sister-in-law, a minor. When the girl was found missing, the family members asked Shaikh about her whereabouts. Finding his behaviour suspicious, the family registered a missing complaint with the police station which was later converted into a kidnapping case. The girl, however, could not be traced.

“The girl does not have a cellphone through which we can trace her location. Shaikh is claiming that he dropped the girl at her residence later on Thursday and that he does not know about her whereabouts,” said Jaywant Mane, senior inspector with the Dindoshi police station.
