Mumbai : A major fire broke out at Shastri Nagar near Bandra railway station at around 8.20 pm on Saturday evening. The fire broke out in a chawl which lies between the railway tracks and S V Road in Bandra west.
The fire affected the rail traffic with trains running with a delay of 30 to 45 minutes. PRO of Western Railway said, “We had turned off the power of the overhead wires on platform number one as a precautionary measure between 8:45 pm and 9:30 pm.”
The suburban services on the down slow line which come on platform number 1 were diverted to platform number 2. However, even after the fire was brought under control, the suburban services were seen running with a delay.
After the fire brigade officials were informed about the fire, eight fire engines, six water tankers and two ambulances were rushed to the spot for rescue and cooling operations. The cooling operations went on till 11 pm.
Fire brigade officials confirmed that no casualties were reported from the spot. Sunil Nesarikar, chief fire officer, said, “The cause of fire is still unknown but we are investigating the same.” As the chawl is located adjacent to the railway tracks, the services on Western Railway were affected.
