Mumbai : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has decided to make major changes in the state administration and some of the senior officials from the state cadre are likely to be sent to Delhi, sources close to developments have revealed.
Some of the top officials are due for retirement this month end. Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Works Department Anand Kulkarni, Principal Secretary of Transport department Gautam Chatterjee, Yashwant Gedam from the Cooperatives Department, Labour commissioner Jawale are some of the officials are due for the retirement.
A few more posts have been lying vacant. On this backdrop, the Chief Minister has decided to revamp the whole administration, the sources said.
The post of executive director of the Mumbai Port Trust is vacant and around 10-12 IAS officials from Mantralaya are said to have shown interest for the appointment. There are almost a couple of dozen other officials too are in a fray.
Two senior officials who had been working in Delhi have recently been sent back to the state. The Chief Minister wants to build a strong lobby of Maharashtra Cadre officials in Delhi. The transfers are expected to be made in this effect, the sources said.
Fadnavis in past couple of months had publicly expressed displeasure over the inaction of the administration in crucial initiatives taken by his government and had also warned them of stern action. He had also taken bold decisions recently to appoint fresh IAS officials in tribal districts.
That was the beginning of changes that the government wants to bring into the administration.
Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya has been conducting meetings of senior officials for past couple of days. The major administrative revamp is being discussed in these meetings, the sources said.
