Mumbai : The formula for seat-sharing of the six-party Mahayuti led by the Shiv Sena-BJP saffron combine would be finalised in a fortnight’s time, leaders of the opposition alliance said on Monday.
Besides Shiv Sena and BJP, other partners are Ramdas Athawale-led Republican Party of India (RPI), Raju Shetty-headed Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathana (SSS) and Mahadev Jankar’s Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP) and Maratha leader Vinayak Mete’s front, Shiv Sangram.
While the Sena-BJP-RPI alliance came into being because of efforts of late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, the ‘shiv shakti-bhim shakti’ combine, before the 2012 municipal polls in Mumbai, the other three parties joined the saffron combine before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly polls are slated in next two to three months.
Monday’s meeting of the Mahayuti was significant in the wake of Sena-BJP meeting last week, during which broad parameters were discussed.
“By August 15, the seat-sharing would be firmed up. We would be able to put the final stamp by that time. In today’s meeting we discussed various issues, merits, demerits and the broad framework of seat sharing,” state BJP President Devendra Fadnavis said.
“We would finalise the seat-sharing in a fortnight’s time. Details would be worked out by that time. I can say now that Mahayuti would contest all the seats,” Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai said.
