Mumbai: The Chembur police have arrested three persons for allegedly duping the nephew of a Haryana minister. The accused on the pretext of selling herbal medicines for horses lured the victim and duped him of Rs 1.69 lakh. The accused, who are part of Nigerian fraudsters gang, have similarly duped many people across the country, said police.

Nafiz Khan, nephew of a Haryana minister, had approached the Chembur police after being duped by the gang. He had contacted the accused after finding their shop number online, however, instead of receiving any herbal medicine, he was duped.

"During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused had rented a shop in Chembur. With the help of the agreement, they had procured gumasta license and opened a bank account and were duping people in connivance with Nigerian nationals," said Shalini Sharma senior inspector of Chembur police station.

The police arrested Mohammad Hussain Shaikh who rented the shop, doctor Kurmi and Salim Anvaruddin Shaikh for their involvement, while the Nigerian nationals are still at large.

The accused had similarly duped another man from Mumba for Rs 12 lakh and also duped people from Delhi, Hyderabad, West Bengal, Odisha and Kerla, said police.
