Maharashtra: RERA records nearly 11,000 projects on deadline day

Mumbai: In total, 10,852 realty projects were registered on the Real Estate Regulatory Authority website by the midnight of Monday. Officials said that the penalty amount to be levied on developers for late registrations would be decided in the RERA committee meeting on Wednesday.

A senior RERA official confirmed that there are over 1,000 developers who have registered their projects after the deadline. The penalty amount would be the same for all developers due to late submissions. Fearing action against them, developers rushed with all their project details to get them registered on the website. On the last day of submissions, nearly 5,000 projects were registered in just 16 hours.

The total number of registered projects has crossed 12,000 till Tuesday afternoon. The authorities have divided the areas of the state into six divisions namely Amravati, Nashik, Nagpur, Pune, Konkan and Aurangabad.

While the lowest number of registered realty projects was recorded in Amravati with only 90 registrations, the Konkan division topped the list with more than 6,170 registrations. It was followed by Pune division with 3,462 registrations of projects. Officials said that the total number of registrations from divisions like Nashik, Nagpur and Aurangabad was surprising since they had expected more participations of developers from these areas.

The official added, “It is a possibilitiy that the developers of rural areas are completely unaware about the process to register their projects and are finding it difficult to apply, however, the time period given to developers was more than enough. If a developer is ready with all the details of the project then it would hardly take more than an hour to get their projects registered on the website.”

The authorities have also provided a new window for citizens to register their complaints against developers regarding any forgery or irregularities in the project. The complainant would have to pay a minimum of Rs 5,000 for registering their complaints on the website.
