Mumbai: The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) held a crucial meeting to strategise for the opposition's approach during the state assembly's budget session. The dinner meeting, which started at 8:30 pm at the YB Chavan Center, extended for over two hours.
The meeting was attended by Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, Congress legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar and MLAs Amit Deshmukh, Jitendra Awhad and Vishwajit Kadam. This meeting is considered crucial for upcoming political developments.
It has also been reported that a preliminary discussion took place regarding the strategy for the upcoming local body elections. During the discussion, Pawar emphasised the need for regular interactions among opposition leaders during the session to discuss various issues. He pointed out that the ruling party is consistently targeting opposition leaders in the assembly.
Senior leaders reportedly advised opposition MLAs that since ruling party leaders are aggressively targeting them, they must respond in kind. They also stressed that the MVA should always stand united against the ruling party.
After the meeting, NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awhad stated, “Keeping aside the issue of the Leader of the Opposition post, what is happening in the House right now is extremely painful. We may be fewer in numbers, but our votes are not insignificant. The ruling party has started revealing its true face. The opposition is being repeatedly insulted, which is unacceptable in a democracy. We discussed what actions need to be taken in response to this.”
Different statements are being made by various parties regarding the municipal elections. However, sources indicate that leaders have advised working together under the MVA for now, assuring that an appropriate decision will be made at the time of the elections.
