Palghar, Maharashtra: In a tragic incident on Tuesday afternoon, a 49-year-old man lost his life after being electrocuted while working on his vehicle in the Shivpada area of Vasai East.

The deceased, identified as Bansu Mishrilal Yadav, a resident of Govind Chawl, Vasai East, was working on his Eicher tempo around 12:30 pm when the accident occurred.

According to preliminary reports, Yadav was laying a tarpaulin over the vehicle when his hand accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire hanging dangerously low over the roadside.

His nephew, Ajit Bansu Yadav (20), who reported the incident to the Pelhar Police Station, stated that Yadav was electrocuted immediately upon contact. Passersby rushed to help and transported him to Galaxy Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, upon examination, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The police have registered the case as an accidental death under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Police Sub-Inspector Shyam Salunkhe and Investigating Officer Kishore Rokade are conducting further inquiries. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.

According to the police, Yadav hailed originally from Chitavpatti village in Zamania tehsil of Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, and had been residing and working in Vasai for several years to support his family.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about public safety and the maintenance of electrical infrastructure in densely populated areas. Residents in the area expressed anger at the presence of low-hanging, exposed electrical wires, calling it a serious hazard that endangers daily wage workers and citizens alike.

Civic authorities have been urged to investigate and take immediate action to ensure that such accidents do not recur, as several similar incidents have been reported in the past due to poorly maintained electrical lines.
