Maha Legislative Council: Special session to elect Chairman on July 8

Mumbai: The state cabinet has decided to convene a special sitting of state Legislative Council on July 8 in a bid to elect its Chairman. The Cabinet made a formal recommendation to the governor. The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Former chairman Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar will take oath as chairman of the state legislative council on July 8 during special session of the House, an official from the Chief Minister’s Office said.

As per the understanding between the Congress and NCP, vice chairmanship of the Upper House will be offered to Congress. A senior Congress leader requesting anonymity said that during the MLC polls, it was decided that the party would support the NCP candidates if it were offered the post of Deputy Chairman, that fell vacant as Vasant Davkhare’s term ended and he lost the recently concluded MLC polls.
