Mumbai: The Central government, after welcoming suggestions or objections from the stakeholders, enacted Clinical Establishment Act in 2012 but an important act from the point of view of quality patient care is yet to be implemented in Maharashtra, laments RTI activist Anil Galgali.
Galgali was speaking on the occasion of World Kidney Day, organised by Rugna Kalyan Seva, a social service organisation on Renal Disease and Diet. Galgali further added that if the act is implemented, it will bring transparency and enhance patient safety while making quality care affordable.
Due to lack of initiative and the will on the part of current government, the recommendations of Clinical Establishment Act are gathering dust. Even the previous government didn’t pay necessary attention to the same. Former Medical Director of Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Dr Sanjay Thakur, expressed concern at the state of healthcare vis-a-vis its importance abroad.
While dietician Dr Seema Sale spoke on the importance of diet in renal disease and advised on dietary modifications for renal patients, social worker Vinod Sadvilkar gave information on various schemes in the existence of Central government, state government and municipal corporation for the benefit of needy patients.
Jitendra Tandel, event organiser, informed they will be launching a website shortly, enabling easy access to vital information for the benefit of needy patients as well as a planned toll-free number.
