Sangli: A 12-year-old boy from Moje Digraj village, was dragged into the Krishna river, as he sat on its banks on Thursday, according to the forest department. After the crocodile dragged Akash Jadhav away, it dropped him in the river. On getting information about a boy having fallen in the river, forest officials rushed rescuers, who managed to retrieve his body after 12 hours on Friday.
According to the forest department, this is the breeding season for crocodiles. Locals fled after spotting the reptiles in knee-deep water but somehow failed to alert Akash and he fell prey to the attack. This is the second such incident of a boy being dragged into the river by a crocodile.
A few months ago, a boy was dragged away in Audhumbar and his body was found after a day of search. Villagers are terrified to venture by the riverside. Akash is the son of brickkiln workers, who are from Bijapur, Karnataka. They had migrated to Moje Digraj for work, which they carried out by the riverbanks.
