Mumbai: In a joint operation by the Bihar and Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), a teenager was arrested from Pune for his alleged role in the recruitment of cadres for Bangladesh-based terrorist group Islamic State of Bangladesh. His other accomplices were held from Patna.
According to police, the Bihar ATS contacted the Maharashtra ATS to arrest an accused, who was booked under the relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities and Prevention Act (UAPA) on March 24. The Bihar ATS had received a tip-off that the accused, Shriyat Anwar-ul-Haq Mandal (19), a resident of Bajitpur in West Bengal, was hiding in a Pune village.
Maha ATS team detained Shriyat from Khalumbre village near Chakan. An ATS official said, “Mandal was working as a construction labourer at Pune. He was involved in recruiting youngsters in the terror group.
He was named as an accomplice by the Bihar ATS, who had earlier arrested two suspects, Khairul Mandal and Abu Sultan, both Bangladesh residents, and suspected members of the banned organisation Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh and Islamic State Of Bangladesh.” Shriyat was taken to him to Bihar.
