Murbad: A 15-year-old girl killed her neighbour’s two-year-old baby after a tiff with the child’s mother over a petty issue, in Murbad Taluka on Saturday afternoon. The deceased, Anushka Jadhav, was playing near her home when the incident happened. The accused girl is a tenth standard student in a Murbad school. The police said the incident took place in Tulai village on Saturday afternoon. Anushka went missing when playing with her two elder sisters near their house. Anushka’s parents were not at home when the incident happened.

The parents were alerted by villagers. Local people launched a search in the area, but in vain. Then they registered a missing case at the police station. Suspecting that the 16-year-old girl who lived nearby might be involved in the child’s disappearance, the police searched her house sometime after midnight and found the child’s body concealed in the house, he said.

The two-year-old girl had been apparently strangulated though the autopsy report was not yet available, the inspector said.
The accused was scolded by the victim’s mother a few days ago and the girl wanted to take revenge which allegedly led her to commit the crime, he said. A case of murder under IPC section 302 has been registered.
