NASHIK: Rising temperatures are not just exacting a toll on humans, but animals and birds too. Around 35-40 40 peacocks have died in Nashik, claim villagers in Dahiwat and Dighwat in Chandwad taluka. Given the drought-like conditions in this area and temperatures here touching 40 degrees Celsius, the birds roam about in search of water and in the process, fall prey to heatstroke. From April 14 to now, 40 peacocks have perished, according to villagers. Thirteen peacocks suffered heatstroke, of which three were treated and released in the wild. –
