Bhayandar: Less than 36 hours after the 41-year-old salesman of a jewellery shop was brutally attacked during a botched robbery attempt on Sunday, the Mira Road police have arrested a couple for their involvement into the crime. Under the pretext of buying ornaments the couple had entered Kanak Jewellers in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road when it had only one employee, Mukesh Sharma (41), on duty as others including the owner were out for lunch. When he was busy taking out the ornaments, the youth whipped out a knife and mounted assault on Sharma. Fortunate to escape with minor injuries, a terrified Sharma raised an alarm, prompting the couple to flee the spot leaving their bags behind. Based on CCTV footages and documents retrieved from the bags they had left behind, a police team nabbed the couple identified as Irfan Madosiya (25) and his fiancée Shaheen Shaikh (20) on Tuesday. While Irfan stays in Modasa village of Arvalli district of Gujarat, Shaheen is a resident of Mumbra. Both had met on a matrimonial website and were planning to get married, police said. Not ruling out the possibility of their involvement in other crimes, the police have registered a case under section 394 of the IPC against the couple who have been remanded to police custody.
