Mumbai: The resounding victory in Lok Sabha election despite the severe agrarian crisis in the country, has emboldened Modi government to ignore farmers and take them for granted. As Nationalism, Hindutva can overpower the real issues, the BJP seems to be now indifferent with farmers’ woes. The budget presented right in the monsoon season neglects farmers. Agriculture did not get much attention in the budget speech.
Instead of announcing the big investment in Agriculture sector, Modi government advises farmers to work on zero-budget agriculture. The govt was much worried about backlash from farmers after they lost three states — Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. BJP used the issue of surgical strike,Nationalism in campaign and made these farmers forget their own problems for the sake of our country. As BJP’s politics is more Urban and Hindutva-centric, the issues of farmers and poor people have always been secondary.
