Jalgaon: The infighting in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now out in the open, with partymen coming to blows in public. A few days ago, a video of a Member of Parliament beating up a Member of Legislative Assembly with shoes went viral.
It seems that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan mera booth sabse mazboot has been interpreted by his partymen as mera boot, sabse mazboot. In fact, such behaviour is becoming a norm in Maharashra too. Political circles are abuzz with the embarassing video going viral.
Uday Wagh and his supporters attacked former legislator BS Patil and this was captured on video. Suprisingly, the incident took place in the presence of Irrigation Minister Girish Mahajan and Cooperative Minister Gulaprao Patil. The supporters of both the ministers tried to intervene but they failed to disperse the crowd.
Interestingly, Uday and BS Patil are from the same village. After the sitting Lok Sabha MP AT Nana Patil was denied a party ticket, Smita Wagh’s name cropped up as the one getting the BJP ticket. Uday is Smita’s husband and the BJP district president.
He is believed to have aspirations to become an MP. It seemed that Uday was overlooked and his wife was being given the party ticket. They were happy that the candidature remained in the family. Moreover, Smita was being given the ticket after bypassing Mahajan, which Uday considered to be a huge achievement.

After Smita’s name was announced, many expressed their anger some expressed openly, some sat tongue-tied. BS Patil was not the sort to sit quiet. He expressed his displeasure publicly. In fact, BS Patil had reportedly said unkind things against Uday and Smita a few days ago.
Moreover, he also reportedly made unsavoury remarks against Eknath Khadse and said the opportunist Waghs had taken advantage of Khadse to get the ticket and then dumped him. Many felt BS Patil’s language was inappropriate and the speech would have had an impact on the villagers.
Then suddenly Smita was replaced with legislator of Chaalisgaon, Unmesh Patil. Having harboured the anger of being denied the ticket even after the name being announced, Waghs were livid with BS Patil. Waghs strongly suspected BS Patil was the cause for scrapping of his wife’s candidature. In this public brawl, even Mahajan was not spared.
