Lok Sabha elections 2019: BJP MP Gopal Shetty drinks worm-infested water during poll campaign at Malwani

As Lok Sabha poll date approaching closer in Mumbai, candidates are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters. On Friday, BJP MP Gopal Shetty drank worm-infested water when he went for poll campaigning at Malwani’s MHADA colony.

According to Mumbai Mirror, despite worms being visible and discolouration in the water, BJP MP Gopal Shetty drank the water. Shetty also assured the people that the problem will soon be solved as an Rs 13-crore tender has been passed, which will ensure that the pipeline of the area is changed. A local resident told the leading daily, “The water here is so bad that we all need to buy bottled water. Sometimes, we can’t even use this water for washing as it is muddy and smells terrible. A few residents have got diseases and skin infections because of such poor quality water.”

Malwani’s MHADA colony has 65 housing societies with more than 3,000 eligible voters. They earlier had said that they will all opt for the NOTA option in the Lok Sabha elections as successive candidates have failed to solve two of their biggest problems, that of water and roads.

While Shetty was drinking the water the residents expressed concern about his well-being since the water posed health hazards. But Shetty said he wanted to drink it and wanted to go through the same suffering of MHADA colony’s residents. Gopal Shetty assured the residents, “I understand the problems you all are going through. The pipeline here has not been changed for 70 years. I will make sure this situation changes soon now that a tender worth Rs 13 crore has already been passed,” reported Mumbai Mirror.
