Mumbai: Counting centres for the Lok Sabha election results, which were set up at NESCO, Goregaon (E) and Sewri on Thursday, wore a deserted look. Not because the public was not interested, but thanks to the tight security and streaming updates people had at their fingertips.

Results were available on the official website of the Election Commission (EC), Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) website, as well as on the EC’s mobile app.

Updates were also available in real time and there were helpline numbers that the public could use. Not just youths, but officegoers too were also seen constantly checking the results. A software technician, Kalyani Harpreet, who was travelling to work on a local train from Bandra to Goregaon, was glued to the EC mobile app.

Harpreet said, “Had I been at home, my eyes would have been glued to the television screen, but since I have to work today, the website and mobile apps are my new heroes!” A cop deployed near NESCO, Goregaon (E), said, “Barricading the premises outside the centres has brought the situation under control, as we hardly had any unruly party supporters hovering near counting booths.”
