Mumbai: A loader decamped with gold bars weighing 20 kg & worth Rs 6.6 crore from Bank of India's Zaveri Bazaar branch on Wednesday afternoon. The LT Marg police have registered a First Information Report against the loader for criminal breach of trust by a clerk or servant under section 408 of the Indian Penal Code. The loader was identified as one Abhi; he is currently on the run with the gold booty in his possession. According to the LT Marg Police, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the consignment belonging to a reputed gold refining company was being shifted to BOI's Zaveri Bazar branch's vault.
Around 3 pm, on Wednesday, Brink India logistic company's gold loading wagon arrived at Zaveri Bazar and began shifting the valuable to the bank's vault; there were three loaders and two security persons overseeing the movement. According to the police, after loading a few boxes of gold, one of the loaders, on his last trip inside the bank, did not deposit the consignment inside the vault. Instead, he walked out nonchalantly with the box of gold under his charge and simply walked away.
After 25 minutes, the logistic company officials realised that one of the loaders was missing; clearly stump-ed, when they checked the CCTV on the premises, they realised that the loader has decamped with the box of gold bars. It is believed to contain 212 biscuits of gold, each weighing 100 gm. "We have registered an offence and are looking for the accused,’’ said an officer at L T Marg police station. According to the police, the said loader was working since April for the company. His antecedents are being checked, as well as his whereabouts.
