Palghar: Littering the roads of the Vasai Virar Mahanagar Palika (VVMC) is going to be a costly affair as now onwards there will be a team which would be in search of such people, ready with a receipt book to fine them.
The VVMC has launched its own Clean-Up marshal team and has started disciplining the people who litter the road by introducing fines of Rs 100 and Rs 200. As of now they have targeted only the station areas of Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar but have plans to put up teams in other chronic areas also, once the team size increases. One of the official manning his team near Vasai railway station said, “We didn’t fine people from day one. Till December 16 we created awareness and informed the people about this system. Only after this awareness programme we have started to fine people according to the offence they commit.”
