Mumbai : The Women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) across the state would be linked to the Skills Development Programme of the Union government, rural development minister Pankaja Munde announced here on Thursday.
She also appealed the banks to strengthen the SHG movement by increasing the percentage of loan disbursed to the SHGs, as she addressed the meeting of bank officials in connection with the life-skills development mission of the state.
“The women participating in SHG movement need to get good professional training and assured employment. It would hence be proper to link the movement to the skill development program run by the Union government. This would enable the state to financially empower the women SHG members by enhancing their skills,” Munde said.
The meeting was held at the Sahyadri state guest house here. MoS rural development Deepak Kesarkar, principal secretary of the department V Giriraj, CEO of the state Life Skills Mission Leena Bansod and several representatives from various banks were present at the meeting.
The malls in the big cities would be an ideal market place for the various products made by the women in SHGs, Munde said at the meeting.
