Mumbai: After batting for the Marathi dish, kandapohe, to be served in all hotels across the state, Ramdas Athwale, the chief of the Republican Party of India, has now demanded reservation for women self-help groups (SHGs) in malls.
“Women SHGs don’t have access to profitable markets and, thus, they cannot sell their products aggressively, he said. It is difficult for such SHGs to make a decent living. Hence, if these groups are given reservation to sell their products in the existing and upcoming malls, it will give a boost to their earnings,” said Athawale.
Athawale is going to meet CM Devendra Fadnavis with a delegation comprising representatives from women SHGs to make their request to the government.
The BJP welcomed the demand. BJP spokesperson Shaina N C said, “The concept is good. The malls have enough space and good footfall too, and so women will be able to create opportunities for themselves and make money. We will support Athawale on this demand.”
