Mumbai: Are these the ‘achhe din’ we were promised, or not? The number of arrested accused in corruption cases until April this year is down, compared to last year, not because we are getting corruption-free governance, as promised, but because the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) laid fewer traps in this period. Until April this year, the ACB had arrested 387 accused in corruption-related cases and this figure is marginally lower than the figures for the corresponding period last year. In 2018, the ACB had registered 301 traps and arrested 410 people.
However, in the first four months of 2019, the ACB only laid 292 traps, in which 387 people have been arrested so far. The revenue and police departments occupy the No. 1 and 2 positions when it comes to corruption, according to the figures issued by the ACB.
