Mumbai : Far from simplifying the process of online registration for learners licence, the regional transport officers (RTOs) are struggling to resolve the problem which keeps cropping up in the online registration process.
The online registration for learners licence was an instant hit after it was introduced back in December 2013 at Regional Transport Office in Andheri. On an average nearly 800 people logged in on the website to fix an appointment for the test. Using the application one could get the time and date when they have to come to RTO for the test. This not only saved time but also saved citizens from standing in a queue for their turn.
However, online registration process has witness a downfall in people using the website owing to the problems that one encounters using it.
A person who wants to fix an appointment has to login on the website of the Maharashtra transport department is directed to another tab for fixing an appointment.
But after clicking on the tab, instead of getting an online application that needs to be filled in, the person is directed to another site.
A Pedder Road resident, Gargi Patil, who was trying to fix an appointment said, “I was trying to open the online application form but instead of that I was redirected to another website. The form never could be downloaded as well.”
The problem has marred thousands of such applicants who have been left with no other option than to go and stand in a queue at RTO offices.
An official from RTO said, “The registration of application online had also dropped down to 600 from 800 application per day.”
