“We are in the process of verifying if drug lord Baby Patankar’s claims are true and also if they have been associated with her over the years.”
Mumbai : Preliminary interrogation of drug lord Shashikala alias Baby Patankar by the Mumbai police has allegedly revealed a chain of the persons involved in the narcotics supply to head constable Dharmraj Kalokhe of the Marine Drive police station who was found in possession of MD drugs.
Sources in the Mumbai police said that Patankar (54) has allegedly named several people who have been a part of this chain which they are yet to verify. Police sources further added that Patankar has also named various policemen from across Mumbai who she claims have been associated with her in the narcotics business over the years.
“Patankar has named several persons including several policemen during interrogation. However, we are in the process of verifying if her claims are true and also if they have been associated with her over the years,” said a police official associated with the Mumbai Crime Branch.
Patankar’s name had cropped up after a head constable from Marine Drive police station, Dharmaraj Kalokhe was arrested for possessing 110-kg Mephedrone (MD) at his residence in Satara and another 12-kg of the drug had been recovered from his personal cupboard at the police station. At that time, it had been alleged that he and Patankar had been having an affair since 1997.
Patankar had earlier admitted to the police that after Kalokhe’s arrest, she had sold a bracelet of hers for Rs 1 lakh to fund her escape from the city. She kept moving around from one area to the other, slowly making her way from Mumbai to Konkan.
She was finally arrested from a private luxury bus in Panvel by the Social Services Branch on April 21 while she was travelling from Kudal in Konkan to Sion in Mumbai.
