Mumbai : There will not be any threat to the privacy of women commuters with the installation of CCTV cameras in local trains, assured SK Sood, who presently holds the additional charge as General Manager of Western Railway.
Several women associations had objected to the installation of CCTV cameras in the ladies compartment saying that it would compromise the privacy of its occupants. However, during the inauguration of CCTV cameras in ladies compartment , Sood assured that, “No one will be allowed to monitor the CCTV footage which will be recorded from these compartments. The footage will be under the custody of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and will only be given to the local police incase if there is a problem or any complaint registered where the footage is required.”
The CCTV cameras at present have been installed in one ladies coach and will be soon put across all the ladies coaches including the first class and the second class. Each coach will be equipped with four to eight CCTV cameras that will attached to a video recorder to record the footage up to 30 days.
