The accused was promised ‘showers of money’ on sacrifice of a child

Mumbai : On Wednesday, the Kurar Police arrested a man for allegedly being involved in black magic practices while other four accused are at large, the police said.

The accused, Pahelu Gaud, resides in a chawl near Banjaaripada in Malad. He was promised that if he kills a child as a ‘sacrifice’, he may achieve ‘showers of money’ by one of his known person Maula, who too lives in the same chawl. Maula, along with his wife and brother, kept on urging Gaud to arrange a ‘pooja’ after which he may attain showers of money. With continuous requests by Maula, Gaud finally accepted for the pooja and started preparations for the same since Monday.

The incident came to light when Gaud’s neighbors found a grave like hole in the premises of Gaud’s house, sensing something fishy, the neighbors alarmed the police. On Wednesday night Kurar Police raided the spot after which Maula along with his wife and brother and one Raju fled from the spot but police nabbed Gaud over suspicion as the police found pooja materials like coconuts, lime etc from the spot along with the grave-like hole. However, the police have arrested Gaud and have registered a case against him and four other absconders.

According to senior officers from Kurar Police, accused Gaud and others are booked under relevant sections of the IPC and also some sections of The Maharashtra Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act.
