Dombivli : The Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation(KDMC) elections will be held on Sunday and will decide the new Mayor. While much mudslinging was seen during the campaigning, political experts say that the KDMC voters are aware about the true situation and will not fall prey to false campaigning.
This year, 750 candidates have stood for KDMC elections. Tight police security has been arranged in 24 sensitive areas of the corporation. The present number of corporators in KDMC is: Shiv Sena 31, MNS 27, Congress 15, NCP 14, Others 11 and BJP 9. This year, Shiv Sena and BJP are fighting individually. In the 2010 polls, Sena and BJP got 19.1% and 10.75% votes respectively.
From 1945 to 2010, there has been around 40% to 50% voting seen in KDMC polls. But this time, due to revised jurisdictions, the voting percentages might get affected. Awareness campaigns to increase voting percentage are still on.
