Kashimira police crack 3-mth-old murder case

Efforts of Unit X of Mumbai Crime Branch  help them in the process

Bhayandar : Thanks to the efforts by their Mumbai counterparts, sleuths of the Kashimira police have managed to solve a three-month old blind murder case.

The Kashimira police had recovered the body of an unidentified man from a secluded area in the Srushti Complex area of Mira Road on February 3. Even as the investigating team was struggling hard to resolve the murder mystery, the Unit X of Mumbai Crime Branch recently arrested two people, Mangesh Kumar Harijan and Umesh Kumar Harijan, in a rape and attempted murder case in the Aarey Colony area of Goregaon.

Later during the investigation, the duo confessed to have killed a call centre driver, whose body they dumped in Mira Road.

The deceased, identified as Ritesh Singh (28) and a call centre driver, was brutally murdered by the duo and their accomplices who had taken a lift in his car from Nallasopara. The accused brutally murdered Singh, dumped his body and fled with the car.

The accused duo have been handed over to the Kashimira police for further investigations into the crime.

“A total of six people, including the accused duo, were involved in the crime, and investigations are on to track their accomplices,” said Senior Police Inspector, Anil Kadam. The accused gang members are said to be involved in similar crimes, committed to fund their lavish lifestyle and splurge on bar girls, revealed an investigating officer.

Village official held: A village revenue official was arrested for allegedly accepting bribe from a complainant, Anti-Corruption Bureau said on Friday.

Titwala village talathi Ragunath B Burkhud had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from a person for entering his name in records for a land purchase made by him at Gotsai village in Kalyan taluka of Thane district, SP ACB Sandeep Karnik said.

Later, the deal was struck at Rs 10,000, he said.

The person later lodged a complaint with the ACB, following which its sleuths laid a trap and caught Burkhud at his office in Titwala while accepting the bribe on Thursday.
