Bhayandar : In a huge embarrassment for the Thane (rural) police a Assistant Police Inspector (API) was suspended after being caught on camera while gyrating to Bollywood numbers and splurging money at a ladies orchestra bar in Kashimira.
Identified as Umesh Patil, the API was attached to the Kashimira police station of the Thane (rural) police. The performance, filmed on a mobile phone apparently inside an orchestra bar on the Thane-Ghodbunder road, not only shows Patil hopping on the dance floor and shaking a leg in full swing to Bollywood tracks, but also raining wades of currency notes. The action of suspension followed after the video clip went viral on the social media. Although a section of police personnel claimed that Patil was not on-duty, the Bombay Police Act-1951 clearly mandates a code of conduct which says that police personnel are on duty round the clock and as such must refrain from any conduct unbecoming that of protectors of the law.
A blanket ban has been imposed on dance bars in the state since 2005.
