With speculation of risk affiliated to children in the expected third wave of Covid-19, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) are planning to come up with quarantine centers and COVID care centres for children in their respective schools. The initiative will be taken forward under 'My students my responsibility'.

Vijay Suryavanshi, Municipal commissioner, KDMC, had asked the education department of the corporation to carry out a survey of the infrastructure and strength of students in schools across the twin cities. With schools shut and learning going online, authorities are trying to utilise the school space for quarantine centres and COVID care centres.

Suryavanshi confirmed that the plan and concept for the above has already started. He said, "We thought presently we have quarantine facilities for adults. But if experts are to be believed, the third wave would affect children. In such a situation we should be prepared as paying hefty bills in the hospital is not possible for every parent. We will provide them with healthcare facilities, doctors and nurses". "Making arrangements in school will help many children avail the benefit," added Suryavanshi explaining how schools will be comfortable for the children as they are familiar with the atmosphere.

Suryavanshi further added, "Presently all the schools are closed due to the pandemic. So taking advantage of this situation, we planned and discussed it with the education officer. The education officers further contacted the schools to get the infrastructure details. The education officials already contacted the principal's of municipal schools, primary and secondary private schools. The principal will provide us with details related to the school and infrastructure, official address, email, and strength of students,".

The KDMC jurisdiction had around 200 to 300 schools across the twin city. "We will see how many schools are coming up with positive responses. Accordingly our education officials will have a video conference meeting with this principal. To further counsel them and make plans and arrangements before the third wave," informed Suryavanshi.

Taking ahead the concept of 'My student my responsibility' all civic and private schools principals will make arrangements for the kids. The school will have a library, cartoon and art on wall, games and entertainment to pass their time.
