Mumbai: The ACB arrested an inspector attached to Deonar police station for demanding 3 lakh to ‘co-operate’ in a case wherein three men wanted to secure a bail. The accused inspector was caught red-handed accepting a 80,000 installment. According to police, on Tuesday, inspector Dattatray Govind Chaudhary (50) was trapped by an ACB team.

Chaudhary was probing a case against three accused who had cheated the complainant to the tune of `10 lakh and had secured an interim bail from a magistrate court. The final hearing was scheduled in the next week. When the complainant approached Chaudhary for help during the case, Chaudhary allegedly sought a bribe of  3 lakh.

After negotiation, Chaudhary settled for 2.5 lakh, and asked the money in a sweets’ box in three installments. The complainant approached the ACB. A senior ACB official said, “Chaudhary was caught accepting 80,000. He was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.”
