Journalism is tau-ght in the school from Class V onwa-rds, cookery is tau-ght from Class IV
Mumbai : With an idea to sow the seed of entrepreneurship at an early age, a city International Baccalaureate (IB) school has started teaching entrepreneurship to children right from Class I.
“We want our students to be independent. They must be job-creators and not job-seekers,” said R. Varadarjan, Principal, NES International School, Mulund.
The subject is optional and students have to pay an additional fee to avail of it. The school has introduced journalism and cookery too as optional subjects.
While journalism is taught from Class V onwards, cookery is taught from Class IV. “We have seen a good response from students and parents for all these subjects with at least half the class strength showing interest in them,” he added. Classes are conducted twice a week for these.
Since most IB students go to study abroad for graduation, they will find the cookery subject they learn useful. That, he says, was the reason behind introducing cookery.
The most response, however, has been for ‘space science’ subject which students are taught from Class I, free of cost.
