Mumbai: The Shiv Sena mouth piece, Saamna, has refused to pin the blame on to the black-listed contractors and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials for the Himalaya overbridge collapse which claimed six lives. Instead of holding BMC responsible for giving good audit reports for the Himalaya bridge twice, Saamna has blamed the large crowd of pedestrians for the incident.

Opposition parties slammed Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and his son Yuva Sena president Aaditya Thackeray for not visiting both the spot and the injured admitted to the hospitals. The editorial also enlisted the number of footover bridges that collapsed in the last two years. It stated that Mumbaikars are victims of overcrowded trains in their daily commute and have been victims of many man-made and natural tragedies. Saamna went on to state that the two new causes which are causing deaths of citizens in this city are fires and bridge collapses.

Interestingly, Samna has covered up the BMC and blamed unplanned development and large crowds that add pressure to the existing infrastructure which can cater to only limited number of population. “The unplanned development of Mumbai and the increasing population has put pressure on basic amenities and other infrastructure is the cause of deterioration of Mumbai city. Many agencies are working to provide the infrastructure and sometimes the many legs that are competing with each other causing an accident,” the editorial said.
