Aurangabad : The Aurangabad bench of the Mumbai High Court has directed concerned authorities to issue notice to the Prime Minister’s Office seeking its say for Narendra Modi accepting a sword in gift during an election campaigning rally at Rahuri in Ahmednagar district last year.
Two social workers from Ahmednagar district namely Sanjay Kale and Sandeep Kulkarni have filed a petition in the Aurangabad High Court in this regard stating that carrying a sword, presenting and even accepting it is a violation of Indian Arms Act which the organizers as well as Narendra Modi have done.
Moreover, this is also a violation of model code of conduct. Modi was provided Z plus grade security cover during his visit to Rahuri on October 9, 2014 and how one could carry a sword, a lethal weapon up to the dais. The information in this regard was sought from the concerned police station but cops failed to provide any. Thereafter, this petition was filed.
It further reads that the president of Yuva Sena, Aditya Thackeray, also was presented a sword during his election rally at Kopargaon in Ahmednagar earlier on October 4, 2014. Therefore, a criminal case should be registered against both, Narendra Modi and Aditya Thackeray, for violation of the act.
The petition was heard before the bench comprising Justice S V Gangapurwala and Justice V K Jadhav on Tuesday. On hearing the argument of petitioner’s lawyer, Adv Satish Talekar, the court directed concerned authorities to issue notice to PMO, New Delhi.
