Mumbai : The Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) has demanded from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) that its powers be fully restored, alleging that its important powers have been stripped off due to the Development Control Rules (DCR) and the Draft Development Plan (DP). It has made this demand, alongside many others, in a ‘strongly worded’ letter to Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte.
The heritage Committee has also insisted that the suggestions it has been making for the past four years be incorporated in the Development Plan (DP), as was promised to it.
In the eight-page-long letter that the Heritage Committee wrote on Wednesday, it has alleged that the civic body has not included several Grade I heritage structures in the heritage list of the draft DP.
It has also alleged that the BMC has downgraded certain heritage structures; these have not been described properly, or their boundaries have been falsely marked.
When the Heritage Committee last met, it had decided to protest via a letter, about several ‘problematic issues’ that have cropped up in the Draft DP.
The Committee has sought a hearing before the DP committee to ensure that its demands are taken cognizance of and are included in the DP. V. Ranganathan, chairman of the MHCC said “We expect that all our demands will be fulfilled completely and have insisted on the same in the letter.”
