Mumbai: The developing cyclone off the coast of Odisha is set to bring heavy to moderate showers in Vidarbha and north-central Maharashtra, according to an Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) official. They have also predicted heavy rainfall over the weekend in most parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, Khandesh and central Maharashtra.
“In the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in the rest of Vidarbha, Marathwada, central Maharashtra and Khandesh. Rainfall is likely even in Mumbai and Konkan regions. Chances of rainfall in south-central Maharashtra and south Marathwada are lower,” said an IMD official.
He further added the weather conditions have been attributed to a persistent low-pressure belt in the Bay of Bengal. “Due to this rainfall, temperatures in the state will be temporarily reduced, but will rise in the next week and the entire state will feel the effect,” said a weather bureau official.
Another official said Maharashtra’s Konkan region will receive isolated showers from Saturday. “The developments on the east coast of India indicate a cyclone. This has brought more moisture and it will end with heavy showers in Vidarbha region from Saturday,” he added.
