Hawkers attack former corporator

Mumbai: A former corporator of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), , was attacked by unidentified men on Saturday morning at Vikhroli, said police. Khan was allegedly attacked by a few hawkers, who had a previous dispute with him. Vikhroli’s Parksite Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating the matter further.

According to police sources, on Saturday morning, an argument ensued between a hawker and a supporter of Khan, over the parking of hawkers’ handcarts in the area, which eventually took a violent turn. When Khan tried to intervene, an unidentified hawker allegedly used a sharp weapon to attack Khan and his aide. Khan sustained serious injuries on his face, while his supporter escaped with minor injuries.

Khan was immediately rushed to the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital at Ghatkopar, where he has been administered medical assistance.  Parksite Police have registered a case against the unidentified men and booked them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. However, police have not made any arrest yet and are checking the CCTV footage of the area to ascertain the facts of the case.
