Mumbai: A 56-year-old woman, Vanita Luthra, jumped to death from the 23rd floor of an Andheri high rise. Luthra had gone to her friend’s place on the ninth floor in Sorrento Heights, but when she could not meet her she jumped to death. Oshiwara police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case and are investigating the matter.

Luthra, a single woman, was a resident of Versova and owned a shop in Lokhandwala area which she often gave on rent for exhibition purposes. Sources claim she was facing financial crisis and the bank had sealed her Versova home. Due to the property matter with the bank, Luthra often spent the night in her shop. On Saturday afternoon when Luthra visited her friend’s house in Sorrento building at Veera Desai road with a travel bag, she intended to keep it there.

Since her friend was not present in the house at the time, she was asked to leave. Luthra, then instead of going back home, she went to the 23rd floor.  On the 23rd floor lobby, there was a sliding glass with a small gallery, which was kept for access to AC compressors. Luthra managed to get access to the gallery and jumped to death.  Minutes later, her body was found on the fourth floor of parking space.

The watchman and the residents immediately alerted Oshiwara police who rushed to the spot. Police found her travel bag and Aadhaar card, which revealed her identity and address. When the police reached her Versova residence, they learned from the neighbours about Luthra’s hallucinations.  Shailesh Pasalwad, senior police inspector of Oshiwara police station said, “Luthra hallucinated that she was being followed and everyone is planning a conspiracy against her. On many occasions, she shared her fears with friends, but never approached the doctor.”

Luthra stayed alone in Versova, while her sister stays in the United States of America. Police have informed the family, who will soon come to India and record a statement. Police have registered an ADR and have sent her body for postmortem in the civic-run Cooper Hospital.
