H1N1 Claims Another Life, Seventh Death In The City

Health Officials Have Advised People To Be Alert Towards Swine Flu Symptoms And Consume Nutritious Food

Mumbai : Swine flu claimed another life in Mumbai on Saturday, taking the total number of deaths to seven so far this year. This is the seventh death reported of an out-station patient in the city so far this year.

The deceased was identified as a 30-year-old female from Thane district who died due to H1N1 Pneumonia. Nine fresh cases of swine flu were reported on Saturday, out of which two were identified as out-station patients. With this the total number of swine flu cases in the city has reached to a figure of 118 so far this year, of which 80 cases are of Mumbaikars.

On January 30, the woman was admitted to Platinum hospital with the on-set symptoms of hypertension and was later shifted to Seven Hills Hospital on February 5. The cause of her death has been identified as malignant intracranial hypertension (high blood pressure) due to intracranial bleed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) due to H1N1 Pneumonia. This is the seventh death reported of an out-station patient in the city so far this year.

The remaining eight patients are either treated on Out-patient department (OPD) or in various private hospitals of the city. All the patients are reported stable by the BMC’s Health department. Rajasthan has reported maximum swine cases and deaths followed by Gujarat and Telangana. Maharashtra has reported 398 swine flu cases and 53 deaths so far this year of which, Nagpur has reported maximum swine flu cases followed by Pune and Latur.

Though all the death cases in the city have been registered of those of visitors, Mumbaikars are not out of danger since the people can still be at risk of influenza virus.

Therefore, the state health officials have advised everyone to be alert towards swine flu symptoms and stay healthy by consuming nutritious food.
