Mumbai : Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) had given its nod to the project report of Metro 4 between Wadala and Kasarvadawali in Thane. The government is scrutinising the report for the final approval which is expected soon, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

“We are trying to expedite the process so that the groundbreaking for Metro 4 project can be done this year,” Fadnavis told the house while replying to a discussion on a calling attention motion in this regard.

The members, through the motion, had expressed concern over non-availability of adequate public transport system in the Kalyan-Dombiwali-Taloja part of the MMR region. Chief Minster assured the House that the government is keen on rapid development of infrastructure in the region and would like to initiate the work on Metro line 4 as soon as possible as a mark of its resolve in this regard.

The government is also keen on completing the work on Nagpur metro as soon as possible, CM said.

The government is studying the land use pattern in the MMR and also the changes in employment patterns of the population in metropolitan regions across the state. The agencies have completed comprehensive transport study (CTS) and are in process of finalising the web of short, mid and long term transport project to be developed in the region till the year 2031. The study has put forth an ambitious task of 450 km of Metro route, 250 Km of suburban railway and 1740 km of highways to be completed till 2031, Fadnavis told the House.
