Mumbai: A day after NCP chief, Sharad Pawar, announced withdrawal from contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Madha Lok Sabha constituency, his grand-nephew, Rohit Pawar has requested him to reconsider his decision. Rohit, son of Rajendra Pawar and the grandson of Appasaheb Pawar put up a post on social media, urging the senior Pawar to reconsider his decision. On his Facebook post, Rohit said, “We are proud of Sharad Pawar’s political journey.
In his 52 years of political life, we have seen him work hard for the common people, irrespective of their caste and religion. We respect every decision he has taken till now. I urge Pawar Saheb to reconsider his decision of not contesting the Lok Sabha elections.” Pawar on Monday had stated, he has taken the decision of withdrawing from LS polls for the ‘younger generation’ and endorsed Parth Pawar’s foray into active politics. Parth too is senior Pawar’s grand nephew, Ajit Pawar’s son. At the same time, Pawar clarified, Rohit was eager to contest the assembly elections. Rohit is a member of Pune Zilla Parishad and his grandfather, the late Appasaheb was the elder brother of Sharad Pawar.
There have been rumours that Pawar had withdrawn his claim due to dissonance within the Pawar family. Ajit Pawar is said to have put pressure on the family members for his son Parth. Rajendra Pawar, Rohit’s father is the chairman of sugar mills and Sharada educational trust. “Both Ajit and Rajendra are politically ambitious and the next generation too want to chalk out their own roles in politics. That may have created dissonance within the Pawar family which has forced Pawar to withdraw from active politics, to dilute the situation,” claimed an NCP leader. However, Rohit has refuted rumours of dissonance and remarked any potential problems within the family have always been resolved positively by talking to all parties.
