Chief Minister announces decisions to boost urban development including more FSI for industries

Nagpur : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced several decisions taken by the cabinet to boost urban development in the assembly on Tuesday.

The decisions which are a part of a series of measures to increase the ease of doing business in the state, include higher floor space index (FSI) for industrial and educational activities while relaxing agriculture land norms to promote industries, tourism, education and police housing. CM had made a statement regarding the measures in Legislative Council last night.

The reforms in reservation of plots along with developments along the highway, on the lines of policies adopted by Union government, were also announced in the Assembly on Tuesday.

Fadnavis spelled out his government’s commitment to clear construction proposals by developers within seven days from their respective municipal authorities or district authorities if the building plan submitted by them is as per any of the 56 plans approved by the government.

He also announced decentralisation of the process of file clearance by handing over the powers to district collectors to expedite the process of setting up industries and its construction in the time-bound manner to generate more employment.

To promote industries, additional FSI from 0.1 to 0.9 will now be sanctioned by the collector and the file need not come to the chief minister. The decentralisation of power along with decision to give clearance for the construction within seven days after receiving the proposal will boost the industrial sector in urban and rural Maharashtra.

Fadnavis emphasised that the purpose of relaxing the norms was essentially to get rid of red-tapism that was major irritant when clearing any industrial proposal in the state. Measures to relax norms in agriculture land and no development zone within the specified parameters will remove the hurdles and delays that often thwarted setting up of industries and its construction.

The chief minister noted that often no-objection certificate for construction on agriculture land would cause inordinate delay thus defeating the purpose of the stated projects. To promote tourism the government has given additional FSI of one both for promoting hotels, highways to generate more employment for people and also tourism industry.

The decision intends to promote facilities for the tourists along with the highways complete with malls, ATM, medical shops, highway ambulances and rest house for drivers et al.
